How to ride

  • Tap on at the gate or reader with a contactless bank card, your phone, your watch or an Opal card.
  • Ride anywhere on trains, metro, buses, ferries and light rail.
  • Tap off when you get off, with the same card or device.
Same card on and off, one per person. Each traveller needs their own card or device, and tapping off with a different one counts as two trips.

Capped automatically

Fares stop going up once you reach the daily and weekly caps, with nothing to set up. Kids aged 4 to 15 travel at half price with a child Opal card, and under 4s ride free.

Going to the airport? Shoo. explains the airport station fee before you go, and takes you straight to your terminal.
