Your trip on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island

Tap Go and put your phone away. The Lock Screen, the Dynamic Island and your Apple Watch carry the one thing to know next.

Most of a trip is waiting: for the walk to end, for the train to come, for your stop. You shouldn’t have to keep unlocking your phone to check on any of it.

Once you tap Go, Shoo. puts the trip on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and keeps it up to date until you arrive. Here’s what you’ll see, and how it stays current.

A ticket on your Lock Screen

The Lock Screen shows your trip as a ticket, three rows and nothing more.

  • The line and what’s next. Your service’s badge and one sentence: Leaves in 8 min while you wait, Get off in 12 min once you’re on board, then Get off here.
  • The ride. The line in its own colour, a dot for every stop and your vehicle riding along it, with the stop names on a slant above, the way a line map names its stations. Stops you’ve passed fill in.
  • The ends. What’s next on the left, and where and when you get off on the right.

Stations where you can change to other trains, the metro, light rail or ferries get the white ringed circle from Sydney’s line maps, with Transport for NSW’s small mode squares after the name. When there isn’t room to name every stop, the interchanges are named first. Tap the stop line and the ticket shows every stop. Tap again to fold them away.

Times are shown in green: they’re already the live ones, early or late. The line keeps filling between updates, so the ticket moves even when nothing new has come in. On a light Lock Screen the ticket is white, and in dark mode it’s black.

In the Dynamic Island

Folded up, the island keeps two things. On the left, the train, bus or ferry inside a ring that fills in the line’s colour as the ride goes. On the right, the minutes: 19m, then Now. If the island is shared with music or a timer, Shoo. keeps just the ring.

Touch and hold it, and the island opens into the Lock Screen ticket laid around the camera: the line’s badge on one side, Leaves in 9 min on the other, then the ride with its stops, then where you start and where and when you finish.

If you wear an Apple Watch, the same trip shows in its Smart Stack: the line, the minutes, one sentence and the ride.

The moments that buzz

Most updates arrive silently. A few come with a sound and open the island, because they need you to do something:

  • your service leaves within two minutes;
  • your stop is next, or less than 90 seconds away;
  • your service left without you, or Shoo. has planned a new route because the old one stopped working.

When you arrive, You’ve arrived stays for ten seconds, in the app and on the Lock Screen, and then the trip closes by itself.

Kept current by your phone

There’s no push server behind your own trip. While it runs, the app keeps going in the background with your location, checks live times every 15 seconds and moves the ticket on itself. On a long quiet stretch with your phone locked, it checks every 45 seconds instead, and goes back to every 15 within five minutes of your next step. If an update is overdue, the ticket says Updating rather than showing old times as live.

A friend’s trip works differently. When a friend shares a trip with you, it reaches your Dynamic Island through Apple’s push service, so it can arrive with Shoo. closed.
