Short answers about the app, your plan and your privacy.

Getting started

4 answers
Which places does Shoo. cover?

Greater Sydney, from the Blue Mountains to the Central Coast, Newcastle and Wollongong: Sydney Trains, Sydney Metro, buses, Sydney Ferries, light rail in Sydney and Parramatta, and NSW TrainLink intercity trains within that area.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Sign in with Apple, Google or a code sent to your email. Your account keeps your free trial and your plan, and syncs Home, Work, favourites, commutes and preferences across your devices.

Does Shoo. work offline?

No. Live times, vehicles, alerts and the map itself need a connection. Every stop and route ships with the app, so stop search answers straight away, even underground. When live times can’t be reached, Shoo. says so and shows the last known times, clearly marked.

How do I save Home and Work?

Tap Home or Work on the home sheet and choose the place. To save a commute, tap Commute: pick where from and where to, and swap them with one tap. The Smart Commute widget then shows its next departures.

Live map and departures

What do the moving dots on the map mean?

Each one is a real train, metro, bus, ferry or light rail vehicle, drawn in its line colour where Transport for NSW last saw it. Its marker points the way it’s heading. Tap one to see where it’s going, whether it’s on time and every stop ahead with live times. Tap Follow on map to keep it centred.

How does carriage crowding work?

Sydney Trains shares how full each carriage is. Shoo. shows it as a strip under the departure and turns it into a tip, like “Most room in carriages 1–2, at the front”, for now and predicted for when the train reaches your stop. Quiet carriages and toilets are marked too.

Why don’t I see crowding on every service?

Carriage loads come from Sydney Trains only. Metro, buses, ferries and light rail show live times and positions, but not carriage-by-carriage loads.

How do alerts work?

A status chip on the map shows good service, or how many disruptions there are. Follow a line from any departure and its disruptions reach you as alerts; your commutes and favourite stops count too. The full status screen groups what affects you, major disruptions and trackwork, translated on your iPhone when your language is available.

Trips and step-by-step guidance

How do I plan a trip?

Search for where you’re going. Sort trips by Fastest, Fewer changes or Less walking; Shoo. tags the fastest, the one with fewest changes and the one with least walking, and hides trips you’ve already missed. Use Earlier and Later to see more.

What happens when I tap Go?

Shoo. guides the whole trip: turn-by-turn walking from Apple Maps, the right entrance, the stairs, escalators and lifts inside the station, the platform, boarding detection that works underground, and a nudge when your stop is next. If you miss a service, it finds a new way.

What is “Catch this bus”?

Tap any bus or train on the map and choose Catch this bus (or Take this train from a departure), pick the stop you’re getting off at and tap Let’s go. Shoo. guides you from there as if you’d planned the trip.

How do reminders work?

Open a planned trip and tap Remind me to leave. Choose 2 or 5 minutes before it’s time to go and Shoo. sends a notification.

Can I share my arrival time?

Yes. During a trip, tap the share button, then Send arrival time to send it with Messages or any app.

Friends & family

Who sees where I am?

Sharing is off until you turn it on, friend by friend. Friends you share trips with see your line and arrival while the trip lasts; your location only if you pick them in Share your trip. Sharing ends on its own when you arrive.

Who sees my photo?

Only your friends in Shoo. Your photo is private to them, never public.

How do I follow a friend in the Dynamic Island?

When a friend ticks you for their trip, it comes to your Dynamic Island and Lock Screen by itself. Tap it to see them on the map. To stop, tap Stop following.

How do I stop sharing?

Account and privacy

Does Shoo. track my location?

Your location is used on your iPhone to show nearby stops, plan trips and guide your walk. When you plan a trip from where you are, its starting point passes through our server to Transport for NSW, not linked to you. We don’t keep your location: trip answers stay on our server for a few minutes at most and aren’t linked to you. If you share your location with friends during a trip, only they see it, and it’s deleted when you arrive. Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

In Shoo., open Settings, then Delete account, and type to confirm. Your account and everything synced to it are deleted from our servers.

Is Shoo. made by Transport for NSW?

No. Shoo. is an independent app made by Korelda Pty Ltd in Sydney. It uses Transport for NSW open data, but it isn’t provided or endorsed by Transport for NSW.
